Car show fired up for Saturday

THE KEY is in the ignition, there’s petrol in the tank, there’s oil in the sump and water in the radiator, and it’s just a question of turning the key to start the largest vintage car show in northern KZN on Saturday.

The Vryheid Vintage Car Club’s Annual Car Show expects to have over 300 vehicles on display this year. Among them will be vintage and classic cars (including a range of “Big Lights” to match any car show’s), hotrods, tractors and implements, stationary engines and motorcycles. The display reflects over a century of motoring what with the new car dealers also taking part.

The venue is the Lucas Meyer School rugby field on the corner of High and South streets, gates opening at 7:00am, and the entrance fee is R25 for adults and R15 for under 18s.

There will be food stalls, spitbraai, tea and coffee for sale, jumping castle and lucky draws, so something for the whole family.

In addition this year, an auction will be held and so far this year among the lots are a 1936 Austin B, a 1953 Citroen Light 15 and a 1953 Renault Floride, a 1939 Case tractor, a 1959 Borgward Isabella and a 1978 Mercedes Benz 450SLC.

Among the beneficiaries of the day’s proceeds are Vryheid Hospice and the Old Age Home.
