Comrades in arms forever
Spare a thought for Elmarie van der Westhuizen who had to bail 15km from the finish line because of dehydration.
Our runners from Biggarsberg Athletic Club arrived back from Pietermaritzburg with tales of bravery against the unrelenting heat that marked this year’s Comrades Marathon.
However, the soreness was all forgotten at Wednesday’s reunion when the BBAC athletes exchanged anecdotes from the race.
Top finisher was Bongani Zwane who finished 190th overall to earn a silver medals coming home in 7:07.
Others who ran included: Bongani Sabela, Petros Mosea (8;13), Velemseni Nkosi (10:49), Nhlansi Nkosi (10:37), Conrad Labuschagne (11:29), Sipho Phungula (8:48), Bongani Zwane (7:07) and Vusi Sibisi (10:38).
Others are (absent when the photo was taken): Anton Nkabinde (11:32), Bongani Ntshangase (8:33), Bonokwakwe Khumalo (8:18), Khethokuhle Mchunu (8:33), Jean Nxumalo (11:42), Jody Mitchell (11:24), Lindani Sangweni (9:22), Mbuliza Ngcobo (11;46), Neville Griffiths (10:55), Sanele Nxumalo (9:57), Dr Shane Hilliar (9:49) and Xolane Mazibuko (11:21).
