TAPS RUN DRY – four to eight hour’s delay

Dr Dumisani Thabethe confirmed it could take as long as eight hours for problems to be resolved.

A disconnected mains pipe in Hilldrop is to blame for water supply interruptions across Newcastle.

Residents might wait up to eight hours for water to be restored.

Explaining the situation, Water Services spokesman, Dr Dumisani Thabethe said workers had spent almost 12 hours maintaining a mains pipe in Hilldrop yesterday.

Unfortunately, the pipe disconnected when the pumps were engaged.

“Basically, they are back to square one,” he added.

Once repairs are complete, workers will begin pumping water at a reduced rate in order to monitor any problems, before allowing the full supply to be released.

Dr Thabethe confirmed it could take as long as eight hours for problems to be resolved.
