Goods vehicle hijacked on Bergville road
The driver explained how one of the hijackers rolled down a window and pointed a rifle at him
4 men armed with rifles hijacked a goods vehicle on the Bergville road this morning (Tuesday) while it was travelling from Ladysmith towards Geluksburg.
A white Toyota Corolla pulled up next to the goods vehicle and forced it to stop. The driver explained how one of the hijackers rolled down a window and pointed a rifle at him.
The hijackers made the driver sit in the passenger seat while they drove the goods vehicle onto the Geluksburg dirt road, followed by the Corolla and a white Toyota Quantum. All 3 vehicles stopped about 3km down the road.
The hijackers quickly loaded the goods into their Quantum, leaving the boxes at the roadside. They left the hijacked vehicle where they had parked it along the dirt road. They then took the driver with them, heading in the direction of Winterton.
They turned onto the Emmaus road and left him at the roadside.
He then contacted the police and Fidelity Security guards, who picked him up and took him back to the scene of the crime. Ladysmith police also responded to the scene.
Goods of an undisclosed quantity were stolen from the vehicle. The driver was not harmed in any way.
The suspects are still on the run.
