Theft from cars continues in CBD

The Newcastle Motor Theft Vehicle Unit is investigating the cases.

There has been a recent spate of car break-ins over the past month, with cash and valuables stolen from the cars. Mr Zwane is the latest victim when R27 000 was stolen from his vehicle.
He had withdrawn the cash from ABSA on July 3, to pay his workers. Mr Zwane put the money in the cubby-hole and stopped at the toilet at the Pick n Pay centre.

When he returned, he realised that the right door had been tampered with and the door was slightly open. He then noticed the cubby-hole was broken into and the money was stolen. Bystanders witnessed the thief drive off in a white Polo.
No arrests have been made. Anyone with information please contact the police on 034 299 9700.
Other incidents include the Spar vehicle being stolen and recovered in Newcastle. Last week alone, four cars had their windows smashed and valuables stolen in broad daylight.
