Angling Professional League casts off new season
The angling season is set to kick off on August 1 and anglers are ready to cast their lines in the Angling Professional League (APL).

With the league sponsored by Vees Micro Enterprise, the Knock-Out Competition sponsored by Transnat Coach Lines and the Grand Challenge by APL, competitors are sure to reel in big prizes.
Incentives include R500 for the winning club of each round of the League, Knock-Out final and Grand Challenge Competition.
The “angler of the day”, will be awarded a trophy, orange cap and R200 cash at the conclusion of each competition.
The angler leading the log will don the purple cap.
New categories have been introduced to the league, which include heaviest scaled fish, heaviest non-scaled fish, Junior Angler of the Year (below 16 years of age); Senior Angler of the Year (over 60 years), Lady Angler of the Year and the ultimate title of Angler of the Year.
An amount of R500 will be awarded for rare species in the order of bass, eel or scaly, while anglers cracking the 4kg and 10kg mark for carp and barbel respectively also pocket a cool sum of R500.
APL will also be hosting an overnight open competition on August 28 and August 29 at Sandford. Details will be announced closer to the event.
This season, the top three anglers for the season will be awarded angling tackle from the renowned brand names such as Sensation, Daiwa, Okuma and Rapala (stockist of Shimano range).
These prizes would include household appliances, office equipment, outdoor equipment, power tools, motor accessories, sound equipment and office automation equipment.
The estimated prize package for the top three anglers of the season is R5000, R3000 and R2000 respectively.
These incentives and prize money is likely to draw great interest among the high calibre of anglers affiliated in the ranks of APL.
Affiliation is currently open and new members wishing to join APL will be assigned to teams of their choice, depending on the availability of spaces within each affiliated team.
The calendar for the season has been finalised by APL; the league will cast off on August 16 at Sandford, followed by the second league on August 30 at Richgate Park.
The season for Breakwaters and Stillwaters starts with their traditional “warm up” fixture, the Champion of Champions on August 2 at Sandford.
