A mother and her child were shot dead in their home a few weeks ago in the Mpondi Area, Nquthu.

Nombuyiselo Khoza (33) and her daughter, Mpilonhle Khoza (5), were with their family when two men entered their home and demanded to know who the mother was.

One of the men shot the woman four times while one bullet hit the child in the head. Both victims died on the scene.

It is said that Mpilonhle was sitting on her mother’s lap at the time.

Four men, including the child’s father, were arrested, but one was later released as there was not enough evidence.

Two men, however, remained in custody and appeared in the Pietermaritzburg High Court and pleaded guilty to the charge.
