Girl (7) raped while granny went drinking

According to the police, the grandmother was drinking at a nearby canteen.

A seven-year-old girl was raped in the early hours of August 1 when a grandmother left young children unattended at night.

It is alleged that the grandmother left the children sleeping in the house on the corner of Miya and Madondo Streets, Sibongile.
According to the police, the grandmother was drinking at a nearby canteen.
When she went back to the house to check on the children, she noticed that one of the little girls was missing. As she left the house to search for her, she found the little girl walking towards the house, shivering.

The little girl told her grandmother that a man took her from the house to a nearby bush and raped her.

She was promptly taken to the hospital for tests and a case was opened.

The Family violence, Child protection and Sexual offences (FCS) Unit is investigating the case.

No one has been arrested.
SAPS Communications Officer, Captain V. Mbense, issued a strong warning to the community that they should always be vigilant of their children’s whereabouts.

“Make sure there is an elder to look after them and do not leave them alone,” he stressed.
