Who’s the King of the Court?

Soccer fans, take note: After a two year rest, the Street Ball Kings Soccer Tournament is back!

After a two year rest, the Street Ball Kings Soccer Tournament is back.

Hosted by Supersonic, this tourney was first held at Blackrock Casino in 2010 to commemorate the Soccer World Cup, and has found a new home.

This home turf is nowhere other than the Newcastle Futsol League (NFL).

On September 20 from 9am, the NFL and Supersonic will host its open competition at the AstroTurf court in Paradise.

Expect fine sporting entertainment, alongside food stalls, live DJs and more.

A guaranteed R4 000 is up for grabs in prize money, as well as trophies for winners of the four divisions of the six-a-side tournament.

These are under-17, over-40, religious groups and the open division.

Entry fees are R200 for the u-17 division, all others are R300 per team, but there is no fee for soccer fans who want to support their teams from the sidelines.

The NFL encouraged residents to be a part of the day’s success.

“We feel the court is a gift we have a pleasure in using, and should have been looked after from an early stage,” organisers commented.

Thus, funds raised through the tournament will go towards the repairs of the AstroTurf, including painting of poles, replacing nets on the goalmouth and net destroyed in a recent fire.

“Even though repairs are the responsibility of the municipality, we feel we need to do our share to ensure the court will last for years to come.”
