Brandon Halforty has taken a childhood passion to heart by becoming one of the area’s top young fishermen.
The 18-year-old Dundee High matriculant has won Junior Proteas Fresh Water Angling colours after impressing at the South African championships. Brandon, who fishes for Kingfishers in Ladysmith and locally for Riverside Angling Club, was part of the KZN team that competed in the SA Championships. He caught 17 fish during his allotted time of between 7am and 3pm.
In August, he will represent South Africa in an international competition in Namibia.
He has been fishing competitively for the past five years but it was his dad, Pat, that taught him to love fishing when he was just out of nappies. While his recipe for success is a closely guarded one, Brandon says practice makes perfect!
