Newcastllians didn’t disappoint as they showed their loving support, generosity and kindness at this year’s East Coast Radio’s Toy Story with Game at Newcastle Mall on October 23.

East Coast Radio’s presenter, Jane Linley-Thomas urged residents and businesses alike to pledge their monies in light of this initiative.

Businesses, residents and schools challenged each other, hitting it out of the park and surpassing last year’s R 180 000.

A staggering R 206 895 was raised in just three hours. Dozens of toys were also donated..

These toys will be distributed to crèches, State hospitals, children orphanages and homes.

Mayor, Afzul Rehman played an integral part in support of this provincial campaign as he encouraged all businesses to make their contribution.

Top business pledges were as follows:

Enza Construction – R 50 000

Transnet Buses – R 20 000

Leach Van der Walt – R 10 000

Phumaf Consulting Engineers – R 10 000

Lekwa – R 10 000

All funds received will be used to donate food parcels to child-headed homes.

As the final call at 3pm on Friday dawned, Ms Linley-Thomas exclaimed her gratitude and announced: “Thank you, Newcastle you biscuit!”
