Yes, it is hot today.  Thirty-three degrees now, 36 tomorrow and an incredible 38 tomorrow, according to the weather report.

This is, of course, all to do with the sun.

NASA has released high-definition images of the sun taken by its space-based telescope, the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO).

According to NASA, the observatory takes a high-resolution image of the sun every 12 seconds in ten wavelengths of invisible ultraviolet light.

Each wavelength helps highlight a different temperature of solar material and each is assigned a colour.

The images are then stitched together by a team of specialists, who spend about 10 hours creating one minute of footage.

The footage shows several active regions of the sun, which are usually the source of solar storms. Magnetic field lines can be seen radiating from the surface and twisting into curves.

NASA’s SDO is studying how solar activity is created and how space weather results from that activity.
