Breaking News: Motorists warned about gang of hijackers

With the festive season approaching, thugs are on the loose, seeking ways of targeting innocent motorists.

A gang of at least 10 men armed with AK-47 rifles hijacked 4 vehicles along the Dundee-Nquthu road this morning.

The gang initially hijacked a vehicle they believed to be a van transporting money to banks. However, to the hijackers’ surprise, there was no money in the vehicle and their luck fell flat.

Three other vehicles were hijacked in a bid to make their getaway.

The guards in the ‘money van’ were assaulted by the thugs. Up to 20 rounds were fired, but it appears that no one was injured.

Fast-acting K9 Unit (Glencoe) and SAPS officers managed to recover all the hijacked vehicles.

A manhunt is currently underway for the gang.

Yesterday afternoon, a motorist exiting Modelkloof  was the victim of an attempted hijacking. The woman was approached by 2 armed men at the entrance of Modelkloof.

However, it is believed that one of the robbers knew the motorist and instructed his accomplice not to hijack that particular vehicle.
