The gang of around ten armed robbers who hijacked a van they thought was transporting money to banks had no luck – they did not get away with anything.

The gang hijacked the van on the Nquthu road this morning.  It appears that the gang also hijacked at least three vehicles from passing motorists in a bid to make a ‘split’ get away.

Guards in the van were assaulted by the gang and at one point they were threatened that they would be set alight – a can of petrol was thrust into their faces.

Up to 20 rounds were fired but it appears as if no one was hit.  The gang made their getaway and all three getaway cars were recovered – abandoned on the Vryheid road and in other areas.

It appears as if the gang had the wrong information as this van was not transporting any money. A  manhunt is continuing for the gang.
