Sine is here to lend an ear

Passionate about helping others, she's ready to make a difference

Describing herself as an intuitive introvert, Sinenhanhla Zungu (Sine) is tailor-made for her profession as a Clinical Psychologist.

The 23-year-old is stationed at the EMRS office in Anne Street, for the next six months, where she will be working with healthcare professionals from EMRS and Forensics. Sine’s journey originally started at Wits, where she studied Drama, Film and Media Studies. However, an injury during a play at the Johannesburg Theatre, brought that road to an end and set her upon the psychology path.

She completed her undergrad at Wits, her Honours at UCT and her Masters at Stellenbosch. She also received the prestigious Fullbright Scholarship last year.

Despite only being 23, Sine does not let the pressures of her work or life get to her. “I want to live my own life, I don’t live according to expectations. I try to centre myself and do what’s right for me.” Sine’s very nomadic approach to life has seen her travel from Dundee to Johannesburg to Cape Town, then Stellenbosch to Pretoria, before coming back to Dundee.

In August she jets off to the United States of America to complete her PHD. The continuous travelling has left her with lasting memories and friends but also makes leaving each place very hard. When she’s not working or studying, Sine loves to unwind by reading, writing or listening to music. As an intuitive introvert, she also loves listening to people. “I’m very drawn to people, their stories, their experiences.

Then through compassion and empathy, I facilitate healing.” Sine has also learnt over the years to separate her work from her personal life. “It takes a certain level of maturity, you have to define what your role is. No one can carry all the burdens of the world.”

With the opportunity of achieving her PHD on the horizon, Sine is excited about her trip to the USA. The opportunity of sightseeing, meeting new people and being a student again is one she can’t wait for. An individual of unlimited potential,

Sine had the following advice for others out there. “Seek fulfillment in all you do. Find things that give your life meaning and live a life you can be proud of.”
