Rotary celebrates it’s birthday in pink

Majuba Rotary Club celebrated its 111th birthday with a ‘Pink Party’ at the Newcastle Club on Tuesday, February 23.

The birthday celebration was not only a fun night out, but also an opportunity to help CANSA. Members had their hair sprayed different colours to show their support to everyone fighting cancer.

Club president, Johan Wagner, said members were excited about the event with CANSA and were dedicated to the project.

“We wanted to celebrate our birthday as it is a remarkable milestone, but we decided to make it count. One of our members suggested we do something for CANSA,” he explained.

Club mentor and eldest member, Gordon Dowsett said he was a member of the club for 41 years.

“Rotary was started 111 years ago by Paul Harris and four of his friends, and has spread to about 176 countries around the world, consisting of 1,3-million members,” he explained.

CANSA Community Mobiliser, Sherika Lallie, expressed gratitude for the support received from Rotarians in Newcastle.

“As a community, we need to stand together in the fight against cancer, and people like the Newcastle Rotary Club make it possible for us to continue to be able to help others in their battle against the disease,” she concluded.
