They may only celebrate their true birthdays once every four years but that hasn’t stopped them from making every year count.

Mrs Badenhorst, a long time and well known resident of Dundee declined to divulge her true age, saying that ‘women don’t age; they mature like a good wine.’ While she celebrates her birthday on February 28 every other year, those closest to her know that in a leap year, she’s more pampered on her birthday.
“It’s funny to be of a lesser age than one’s grandchildren. They find it very odd,” she said. This year, she plans to celebrate with her family, grandchildren and an exceptionally good wine.

Fahrana Rotol celebrates her birthday on March 1 every other year, but on a leap year, she makes sure it’s special. “Those close to me know when my real birthday is and they know that I expect big gifts when it comes to it.”
While she’s waiting to see how she gets spoilt this year, she’s also thankful for all she has now. “I’m very blessed to be in good health, to have three amazing kids and a wonderful husband and family. I couldn’t ask for more.” She loves the fact that she’s born on a leap year, a trait which makes her special. “I’m like a rare jewel.” Fahrana turns 32 this year, but in leap years only turns 8, the age of her eldest son.
