Shots rang out in Utrecht Street today and a life was lost.
An unknown vehicle stopped beside a grey Toyota Hilux, opened fire, then sped off.
It was later found that the victim who had been shot and sustained fatal injuries was Vryheid Taxi Owners’ Association Chairman, Timothy Dlamini.
Dlamini had been chairman at the association for just over a year following the death of former chairman, Mfaniseni Zulu, who was also brutally shot in October 2014.
According to reports, Zulu had been leaving his business, Monate Tavern in the Old Location in Bhekuzulu when he was shot at several times by unknown suspects who were in a white Toyota Corolla.
The murder has also raised questions of whether rumours of muffled taxi violence were true as taxi owner, Jabulani Khumalo, was also shot in December last year.
A case of murder has been opened and the Vryheid SAPS are seeking any clues that could lead to the arrest of Dlamini’s killers, who are still at large.
