ANC has failed rural communities – DA

You hire with your vote and you fire with your vote

The Democratic Alliance has tabled a motion in the KZN legislature, highlighting the failure of senior ANC Councillors in rural municipalities.
The motion comes after a string of public meetings in the Dannhauser area by the DA. “We informed the sitting of the legislature of our observation that the residents of ward two in Dannhauser, did not know that the Mayor of Dannhauser, J Phakathi was also their ward Councillor, said Dr Keeka, DA KZN Member of Legislature.
Dr Keeka added that the common concerns among residents were long grass that is seldom cut, broken street lights and potholes all over town.
“These pose several challenges, chief among these relates to resident’s safety. With the towns high crime levels and lack of adequate policing, the environment for criminals is made even more tempting. Allowing them to roam more freely and being able to hide in the overgrown grass and broken streetlights makes it hard to see them at night.
“In tabling our motion, we called upon the sitting to resolve to call upon her worship the mayor to start delivering basic services to her ward, Dr Keeka said.
“Residents anger is brewing over the lack of service delivery and we have conveyed the message that they will have the opportunity at the ballot box to remove any under-performing public representative.” Dr Keeka urged residents to remember a quote by Helen Zille, which reads, “You hire with your vote and you fire with your vote.”
