Dundee’s local boy becomes Kwaito star

His sole mission is to revive the kwaito genre in the ever-changing musical landscape, with the release of his new single "Ishove" which was released on the April 1.

Ntandoyenkosi Mhlungu, well known to his peers and fans alike as “Patzin”, is an emerging new age Kwaito artist, born and bred in Sibongile. After matriculating in 2009 he relocated to Durban in pursuit of an academic qualification in public management through the Durban University of Technology.
His love and interest in music and the entertainment industry saw him on the Z cards ( Z cards are a modeling version of business cards and like a portfolio they show your versatility and scope as a model) of iindoni Models as well as freelance events marketer for prominent Durban events company RUN DBN.

In the midst of all his side gigs, his love for music remained consistent. It was meeting Simile Khanyile, owner of Colourful Media Productions, to which he is signed to, which prompted the youngster to act on his passion after Khanyile spotted his musical potential.

This led to the recording and release of his first single titled “Simnandi” under Colourful Media Production and the mentorship of Mr Khanyile. After the release of his first single it wasn’t very long before the multi-talent graced the stages of Durban’s hot spots such as 47th Avenue, Absolute and Boulevard just to name a few.
Patzin has also strategically aligned his brand with big corporates, such as Red Bull, which secured him a place in their “Kas’ lam Corner to Corner” and saw him perform to large audiences at popular Durban spots like Max’s Lifestyle, Clermont Rank, Ulundi Crystal Lounge, Kwamashu and Eyadini in Umlazi.

The young Kwaito musician has also recently been chosen to be a part of the ‘Cell C above the line’ advertising campaign which comprises of billboards, radio and TV ads. The rising star has also had a stint in the popular SABC 1 telenovella “Uzalo”.
