Taking the mickey out of Math

In the quest to diminish the fear of math, Miki Maths is taking giant strides in making the daunting subject fun, while aiding less fortunate children.

Last Friday, Miki Maths donated 25 chairs and 10 tables to eLollipop créche in oSizweni.

Many of its children come from disadvantaged homes, where parents are unable to afford top-of-the-range education.

The business will also give 100 children from eLollipop free math lessons every week, at no cost.

This generous gesture formed part of the organisation’s third birthday celebration and social responsibility.

“The aim of the math lessons is give the future adults of oSizweni the same benefits as those who can afford lessons from Miki Maths at other schools,” said franchise owner, Joany-Ann Campher.

A special birthday cake was made for the occasion, adding to the day’s celebration.

The children were also given a book set, focusing on maths, as well as stationary.

“While eLollipop pupils will benefit from the lessons, other children will soon reap the rewards of a free education,” said Mrs Campher.

“We have set up a trust fund, as we would like to do the same for other schools and in the long run. We eventually want to set up an edu-centre for children to come and learn math for free.”
