Teachers picket in protest against overcrowding
The group are urging the department to hire more teachers

A group of protesters are staging a protest outside the Department of Education offices against what they say is overcrowding in schools.
The group are calling on the Department to hire more teachers at various schools around the area.
Several protesters were seen brandishing rocks in a bid to prevent motorists from using the road.
Protesters who spoke to the Courier said that the perfect ratio is one teacher to every thirty learners.
However, some schools in the area have one teacher to over seventy learners.
There is currently no police presence in the area.
