A kind gesture goes a long way
The tots of Home Meah received surprise gifts, cakes and other donations from the Catholic Youth for Christ
The tots of Home Meah received surprise gifts, cakes and other donations from the Catholic Youth for Christ (CYC), on Saturday, May 14.
Skumbuzo Mathebula, Director of CYC, said members thought helping the little ones of Home Meah was the right thing to do.
“We don’t have much to give, but we still tried. Each member was requested to donate something to the home.”
Nappies, baby formula, clothes and toys were donated to the home. CYC also gave the toddlers cakes and sweets, and said it was a surprise birthday party for every child there.
“Most of these children never had the opportunity to celebrate their birthday, so we decided to make this day everyone’s birthday.”
The visit was opened with a prayer by Pastor Pious Ncube, who proceeded to spend the day getting to know the little ones. Members of CYC also decided to give Home Meah staff members the day off, and helped them with their daily chores by cleaning the house, doing the laundry and working in the garden.
Mr Mathebula said the aim of the organisation was to get as many youth members involved in charity events, as it was a way of getting them off the streets and out of trouble.
“We plan on doing a charity event for Home Meah at least twice a year from now on.”
For more information about CYC, or how to contribute to their charity projects, contact Skumbuzo Mathebula on 083 864 7008 or Pastor Pious Ncube on 072 164 7486.
Home Meah staff thanked CYC for the donations and for spending the day at the home, making every child feel special.
Home Meah is a place of safety for babies who were given up, abandoned, or orphaned. Currently there are 15 babies residing at Home Meah, of whom the youngest one is only three months old. The home is a non-profit organisation, and depends on the help of individuals, businesses and other organisations to care for the needs of each baby.
The centre is in desperate need of nappies, milk formula, soap, shampoo, and cream for babies and toddlers. Donations of fruit, vegetables and clothing will also be appreciated.
If you would like to make a donation to the home, kindly visit them at 115 Impala Road, Hutten Heights, or contact the staff on 034 312580.
