Massive fire breaks out in Union Street

Fire fighters yesterday contained a huge fire that broke out in Union Street, near the old Majestic Exhibition Centre (Show Grounds).

It is not clear what started the blaze but strong winds and dry grass have helped it spread.

Firefighters responded speedily to ensure that the buildings nearby aren’t destroyed and have extinguished most of the fire.

The fire also spread to the veld adjacent to Pennsymons Street, behind NDE Motors.
