Men’s health month- stand proud and know your status

To all men just remember and keep in mind that the earlier it is picked up, the better your chances of surviving it.

The Dundee Hospital in partnership with Umzinyathi District Municipality welcomed Men’s Month in a distinctive way this year. On May 27 “Isibaya Samadoda” at Umzinyathi Municipality was initiated and was a huge success. The purpose of Isibaya Samadoda was to urge and educate all men to develop a sense of leadership not only for themselves but their families’ as well.
Dundee Hospital had the honour to be welcomed by Honorable Mayor Lindokuhle Ngubane and Municipal Manager Dr. E.M.S. Ntombela in the uMzinyathi Municipality building.
This event was graced by the presence of Dr Ndaba from MMC program in Pietermaritzburg DOH, KZN, who lead a discussion on men’s health and men’s issue and was accompanied by Mr. Goji.

Four talks were given on the day: Prostate Cancer which was led by Dr. Gumbi, TB management led by Mr. P Madela, STI Management led by Mr. MJ Shabangu and HIV/AIDS in the workplace which was led by Mr. J Thabede.

This event was well attended by men from Umzinyathi District Municipality, Department of Health District Office, Endumeni Municipality and Department of Education and they came in numbers.
On the day men were educated on health risks they might face and how they can prevent certain diseases. They were told on how circumcision is still one of the best ways to reduce the spread of sexually transmitted infections.

They were also encouraged to go for regular checkups for Prostate Cancer, diabetes, HIV/Aids, TB Screening among others. Men let work on a lifestyle which prevents disease and become more proactive into living a healthier life.
Dundee hospital encourages all men to do more towards living a responsible and a healthy lifestyle and to also make a heartfelt appeal to every man to take the initiative to come out and get educated about health risk and also get tested.
