The process involves public participation and council decisions.

NEWCASTLE – The municipality is considering new and revised by-laws.

In response to a question posed last week, Mayor, Afzul Rehman explained the process would involve public participation and council decisions.

Advertisements and public meetings were also required.

Asked when these by-laws were expected to come into effect, Cllr Rehman said: “Within the next few months.”

An official source explained different departments or portfolios had different by-law requirements to be relevant.

He added the by-laws were updated as and when required.

“It’s an ongoing process. For example, when a certain matter arises, we need to then relook at the policies and by-laws related to that.”
