‘Sex video’ teacher to stay in custody until September 7

The forty-five-year-old, who is yet to plead to the charges, handed himself over at the Durban Central Police Station on Sunday and was brought to Nquthu to appear.

The Nquthu schoolteacher, accused of having sex with schoolgirls and videoing the sessions on his cellphone, has been remanded in custody until September 7.
The forty-five-year-old, who is yet to plead to the charges, handed himself over at the Durban Central Police Station on Sunday and was brought to Nquthu to appear.
His lawyer, Wesley John, said his client had ‘been fully co-operating with the police’.
The accused covered his hat to prevent him being identified by the large crowd that gathered at the Court on Monday. However, the Magistrate ordered that he removed his headwear when he appeared.
Mthandeni Dlungwane, MEC for Education, who attended the hearing, told the Courier that five teachers have already been suspended from Ekucabangeni High School where the accused was teaching.
“These teachers will be suspended until our investigation has been completed. We do not want any actions that will disturb the investigators,” he said.
