Welcome rain freshens up bone-dry Endumeni

We can almost hear Supertramp singing 'It is raining again...'

Residents rejoiced when light rain started falling last night and continued until this morning.  For the first time in months, pedestrians had to haul out their umbrellas.

The only dampener was the postponing of the mini cricket tournament, in which local schools would have featured, in Ladysmith.

The area is still in the grips of the worst drought in over 70 years and the Endumeni area is totally reliant on water pumped from Chelmsford dam into the Buffalo River from where water is extracted via the Tayside pump station.

Umzinyathi District Municipality has urged that residents continue to be vigilant and save water.
