Day five of the National Book Week tour was a cross-generation marvel in the warm heart of the KwaZulu-Natal Province of. Hundreds of people made up of everyone from crèche-age children, primary school, teenagers to gogos came out to participate in the National Book Week celebrations at Mbazwana Depot and Public Library. Our NBW Ambassador, Zakes Bantwini spoke eloquently to high school learners about the importance of education at any age and how reading inspired his love of music and writing.
From spelling bee, to Word-a-thon, to chess games, to storytelling hosted by Kwesukela and a toy library by Cotlands, there were activities for everyone. Our beloved mascot Funda Bala captivated our young audience and went around generously handing out books to everyone. Mrs Sithole Moloi, MPL MEC of Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation and Ward Councillor Magagula presided over the official proceedings and ensured the spelling bee champions were rewarded for their great efforts!
