Police believe Mrs Mkhize was assaulted and fell on the bathroom floor.

Shock waves vibrated around the quiet area of Burnside Road, overlooking Glencoe this morning, when a Health Department mortuary van arrived to remove the body of a woman who had been beaten up and killed.

A huddle of onlookers gathered under their umbrellas outside number 26 as police forensic officers sifted through the house.

Glencoe detectives later arrested a 40-year-old man believed to be the woman’s boyfriend.  There was a domestic dispute in the house on Friday evening involving the woman, Zanele Mkhize (40), and the man.

It is believed the quarrel was about child support money.  Mrs Mkhize’s daughter was in the house at the time.

Police believe Mrs Mkhize was assaulted and fell on the bathroom floor.  She later died of her injuries and police were alerted.  The man is being held for questioning and will appear in the Glencoe Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
