Brave grandad beats off four robbers

Two spent cartridges were found in the house and one live round.

A 64-year-old man stood up against four robbers who held him at gunpoint after breaking down the door to his house at Springboklaagte farm, Danhauser.
Police said the man and his family were asleep at around 12.30am yesterday when he woke up upon hearing someone attempting to smash open the front door.
He got up, armed himself with a knobkerrie, and confronted four men who burst through the door.
One of the men was carrying a firearm. The men demanded money and the gunman fired two shots in the house.
The old man then struck one of the men with the knobkerrie and grabbed one of his accomplices. A struggle ensued during which one of the robbers managed to take the knobkerrie from the man. He was struck on the head and kicked.
However, he still managed to get up and the men ran off without taking anything. Two spent cartridges were found in the house and one live round.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Dannhauser police on 034 621 6500.
