Seven arrested after police respond after attempted farm attacks

Police and nearby farmers immediately responded to the attack, with Secure SA co-ordinating the response.

On Sunday, seven suspects were arrested in a joint operation mounted by Ladysmith SAPS, the K9 Unit and farmers in the Elandslaagte area.
At least 10 suspects have been linked to two attempted farm attacks on Saturday night and Sunday morning. Police and farmers later arrested seven men and recovered seven firearms.
A farmer in the area called for help after men were spotted on his farm in the early hours of Sunday morning.
However, the farmer’s dogs kept the attackers at bay. The suspects attempted to lure the dogs away from the farmhouse, but the dogs did not give chase and stayed where they were, protecting the farmhouse. The farmer and his wife remained inside.
Police and nearby farmers immediately responded to the attack, with Secure SA co-ordinating the response.
A more thorough search of the area revealed two more firearms hidden in the bush, bringing the total number of firearms recovered to 7.
The police operation was spearheaded by Major Jan van Straten.
A major manhunt for the remaining suspects is still underway, with arrests expected soon, the Ladysmith Gazette reported.
