Ematsheni police arrest one and recover unlicensed firearm

"We will make sure that we apprehend all those who are in possession of unlicensed firearms"

A 33-year-old man appeared in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

On September 30 at about 9.30pm, police at Ematsheni were working in the area when they found the suspect at Ezinqeni area, Mazizini. He had in his possession an unlicensed revolver and 12 rounds of ammunition. He was promptly arrested.

The recovered firearm will be sent for ballistic tests to ascertain if it was not used in any other crimes in the province.

The Acting KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bhekinkosi Langa applauded the members for recovering unlicensed firearm and ammunition. “We will make sure that we apprehend all those who are in possession of unlicensed firearms,” said Langa.
