The juvenile was sentenced to a Youth Care Centre for a period of five years

A 15-year-old was found guilty of raping his five-year-old cousin in the Ladysmith Regional Court on September 19.
On March 17, at around 9pm, he was in the Sandlwana area (Upper Tugela) when he was caught raping his five-year-old cousin. The juvenile was sentenced to a Youth Care Centre for a period of five years. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
The case was investigated by Warrant Officer Sanjay Puncham.
During the same month, the Ladysmith Regional Court also convicted a 20-year-old for compelled sex under the Sexual Offences Act. On April 1 last year, three boys aged 13, 14 and 15 were in Burford when they were called into a nearby house by three older boys (aged 17, 19 and 20).
The older boys then forced the younger ones to self-masturbate in front of them.
After their ordeal, they ran home and informed their father about what had happened to them. The matter was reported to police, and the suspects were traced and arrested.
During the trial, the 17 and 19-year-old were found not guilty, while the 20-year-old was found guilty.
He was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment, which is wholly suspended for five years, and he is to undergo correctional supervision for four years. His details are also to be placed on the National Register for Sexual Offenders.
The case was investigated by Warrant Officer John Masengemi.
The investigating officers had one thing in common, they all thought highly of the prosecutors in their cases – Mrs Zungu, Mrs Singh and Miss Mpumane. The investigating officers worked closely with them during the investigation and trial of the cases.
