Residents warned not to use dodgy shortcut

Now in fear that they may be the next victim of a deadly crime, Leonardsville residents are urging police to be more visible in patrolling the area they say is crime-ridden

After the recent discovery of a dead woman’s body in open veld in Poona Road, Leonardsville, residents now live in fear for their lives. Numerous criminal activities are reported to be taking place in the area.
The body was found on October 4 by four boys who immediately called for help. The woman had been brutally beaten to death.
Now in fear that they may be the next victim of a deadly crime, Leonardsville residents are urging police to be more visible in patrolling the area they say is crime-ridden. With the open veld in question used as a shortcut, people believe they are at risk of falling victim to crime.
“We need more police visibility It is not the Community Policing Forum’s (CPF) job to catch criminals and respond to crime scenes, as they are just helping out the police. Police need to take responsibility for their job and make sure that criminal offenders are captured and arrested,” said Councillor Abbas Warasally.
Residents have been urged to avoid using the veld where the woman’s body was found, as it is deemed to be a dangerous place. Parents are also warned to keep their children away from this area in order to prevent any harm coming to them.
