THIS past Sunday cyclists from all around the country went down to Durban to take part in the Tsogo Sun Amashova Durban Classic cycling marathon.
Among these many cyclists was Vryheid’s Dumisani Xaba who finished the 65km challenge at an impressive 2hours and 32minutes.
Born and raised in the Kwa-B section in Mondlo, Dumisani is currently employed as a Principal Engineer at Toyota SA Manufacturing working in the Logistics Planning Department in Johannesburg, this local said that he took up cycling as a means to keep fit.
“Growing up I’ve always loved bicycles my friends and I had bikes that we would use as a form of transport. As I got older I had to consider fitness as well and the best way I knew how was cycling. I joined friends at work and started riding during the weekends and have never looked back since,” said Dumisani.
This having been his first time participating in the marathon, Dumisani said that he would definitely be entering again next year.
“I was a bit sceptical about taking the full 106km since I have never done this route before hence I took the 65km challenge but next year I’m taking the full 106km,” he said.
