WITH the T20 League coming to an end, three crucial matches were played last weekend.

On Saturday, King Superstars hosted Mr X in a thrilling match at Cecil Emmett. King Superstars batted first and reached 158/7 in their 20 overs, with Mirza Manawer (49) and Adnan Ilyas (26) top scoring.

For Mr X, Brandon Bender (4-0-21-2) and Clifford Dougherty (2-0-27-2) were the best bowlers. Mr X’s run chase was an exciting one and they managed to reach the score with three balls to spare, mainly thanks to Charl van der Berg (48 not out) and Nathan Stride (40).

Ikhlak Ahmed (3-0-18-1) and Imran Anwar were King Superstars’ best bowlers. Mr X won the match by five wickets.

Two games were played on Sunday. In Dumbe, Wicket Wasps won the toss and sent Dumbe into bat. Good bowling from the Wicket Wasps bowlers restricted Dumbe to 106 all out in the 20th over with Triztian Nel (4-2-20-3) and Jaco Davel (2-0-16-2) being the leading wicket takers. Charl Beneke (42) and Leon Solms (17) were the best batsmen for Dumbe. The Wicket Wasp batsmen, with a couple of hiccups along the way, managed to pass the score in the 16th over, losing five wickets.

Triztian Nel (34) and PJ du Toit (27) top-scored with Dumbe bowlers, Rupert Beneke (4-0-20-1) and Anton Beneke (4-0-27-1), having the best bowling figures. Wicket Wasps won the match by five wickets.

The other match was played at Cecil Emmett between Mr X and the Afrimat Gladiators. A well-disciplined bowling performance from all Mr X bowlers restricted the Gladiators to just 93/7 in the allotted 20 overs, with Brandon Bender (4-0-17-2) and Gavin Bosman (4-1-7-1) being the cream of the bowling crop. Andrew Vorster (19 not out) and Kobie Marè (13) top scored for the Gladiators.

The Mr X batsmen easily reached the target in the 11th over, losing only the wicket of Matthew Stride for 25 runs. Jean Botha was unbeaten on 45. Jackie Delport was the only successful bowler for Afrimat Gladiators, with figures of 4-0-27-1. Mr X won the match by nine wickets.

The last round of Twenty 20 league matches takes place this weekend. On Saturday, Mondlo host Bhekuzulu at Cecil Emmett at 1:30pm. Wicket Wasps will face Afrimat Gladiators at 10:00am at Cecil Emmett and Dumbe will go up against Mr X in eDumbe.

Sunday’s second match will see Bhekuzulu vs King Superstars at Cecil Emmett.
