Water Update: Close to a quarter of a million people could be without water for days
Reservoirs are slowly running empty and by this evening, most areas will have no water

uThukela issued a water shortage warning today (October 25) after taxi warlords interfered with the operation of the Ezakheni Water Treatment Plant.
Although police are at the Ezakheni Water Treatment Plant, they cannot operate the equipment and workers are too intimidated to actually arrive at work.
uThukela warn the communities of Ezakheni (Sections A to E), Pieters industrial area, Mthandi, Acaciavale, Smartiesville, Aloe Park, Leonardsville and other sections of Steadville that since yesterday afternoon, the Ezakheni Water Treatment Plant has not been operational owing to protest action.
Water tankers cannot be dispatched because the Ezakheni Water Treatment Plant is used to feed the water tankers, so the entire Indaka area (which forms part of the greater Ladysmith area) will not get water supply as well.
The number of people affected by the pump being stopped could be well over a quarter of a million.
Reservoirs are slowly running empty and by this evening, most areas will have no water.
