Lover jailed for killing boyfriend in fit of rage

She initially claimed that three men attacked her boyfriend

A 23-year-old woman will spend the next six years behind bars after being found guilty of stabbing her boyfriend to death.

During November last year, Sanele Shabalala (28) was stabbed and killed while driving his minibus.

Police were notified and they questioned his girlfriend at the scene in the Umhlumayo area of Ezakheni. The girlfriend alleged that there had been three males in the vehicle, and that they had attacked and killed her lover.

The case docket was given to Sergeant MKK Cele of Ezakheni Detective Services to investigate. Investigation later revealed that the girlfriend of the deceased, Jennet Snethemba Khumalo (23), had in fact killed him.

She later confessed that during a fit of rage, she used a knife to stab her boyfriend once in the neck.

The accused was convicted of culpable homicide and will spend six years in jail for her crime.

She was sentenced on October 25 in the Ezakheni Regional Court.
