THIS week we took some time to talk to Vryheid model Skhulile Mkhwanazi, who took home the prize as Mr AbaQulusi this year.
His career as a model started out during his first year at Unizulu where he was studying his BComm in Accounting.
“We had a Mr and Miss UniZulu competition and a few friends encouraged me to take part, although I was slightly sceptical,” he said.
Despite having been uncertain, Skhu made it to the top 12 in that competition and was determined to make his way through to the number 1 spot.
“After that I just started doing other competitions and learnt skills from those ahead of me along the way,” he explained.
Although he has been approached by a few modelling agencies, he says that he has not signed up with anyone yet as he feels that he does not want to get in over his head.
“Being with a modelling agency would mean they get to decide where I go and what I do and I feel that there is so much I need to work on and achieve as my own person without all that pressure,” said Skhu.
This model believes that winning the title of Mr AbaQulusi will be something great to build on as he moves forward in life, whether he decides to do something for charity or anything else.
Moving forward, Skhu said that he wants to continue with his BComm Accounting studies as he wants to head into the business sector.
Five things that Skhu’s world revolves around:
? Knowledge
? Education
? Art
? The wellbeing of himself and those around him.
? His spirituality.
