Maubrie – Making music to make you smile

SINGING has been a passion and a way of life for the Maubrie duo from an early age, who were already participating in concerts and singing competitions in their teenage years.

In 2008, Maurits Brits met Gerbrie Bester at a CANSA ‘Jail and Bail’ event in Ladysmith and invited her to sing with him at Rosefees in Stilfontein and the Orkney Snork nie Festival. They joined forces and ‘Maubrie’ was brought to life.

The major highlight of their careers was putting on nine performances in four days on different shared stages after reaching the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees (KKNK).

“That was an awesome experience for us to entertain people coming from all over SA. After that we continued with our singing, performing with big names on stage doing several functions and festivals such as Dundee, Ladysmith, Memel, Ermelo, Wakkerstroom just to name a few,” states Maurits.

“We are proud to say that a well-known recording studio, who works with some of the big artists as well, has agreed to do our recording cd. A well-known songwriter and musician has also agreed to write some songs for us.We are really thankful and we don’t want to spill the beans now, but it will be seen under credits on our cd. All we need is just to get some sponsors to make this dream happen soon.”

“Currently we do all kinds of music and would like our community to take note and enjoy what we can offer and support local talent. We do corporate functions, weddings, 21st birthday parties, shows, festivals, fundraisers, dances, year-end functions, but most of all, we do music to enjoy!”

“Lastly, but most importantly, is that we thank our God for the talent to be able to sing and make people happy and to put a smile on somebody’s face…”
