The fourth of the VME League was held at Richgate Park on December 11. With the league so tightly contested, the teams were out to consolidate their position. Ebrahim Mia of Challengers was the, “angler of the day”, as he accumulated 48 points, winning both the “orange” and “green” caps as the overall leader in the APL. This is most points an angler has scored in a single outing in the Angling Professional League, however there were other anglers who bagged some good catches on the day, Albert van Niekerk (Breakwaters – 40 pts); Anil Boodhoo (Stillwaters – 37 points) and Janie Els (Breakwaters – 34 points). The top three anglers of the APL to date are Ebrahim Mia (65 pts); followed by Fanie Els on (47 pts) and followed by Anil Boodhoo on 45 points.
Breakwaters accumulated an impressive 253 pts; followed by Stillwaters with 200 pts; Challengers with 185 pts; Ladysmith with 83 pts and Dannhauser with 45 pts. Breakwaters leads the VME League with 36 pts; followed by Stillwaters on 28 pts; Ladysmith with 24 pts; Challengers on 23 pts and Dannhauser with 7 pts. The achievement of Stillwaters is commendable as many of their anglers are fishing for the first time in competitive competitions; they have some juniors and ladies in their team. The season has been a very exciting season thus far, as the outcome of each competition is difficult to predict makes for an interesting season going forward into the new year.
The top five anglers of Breakwaters/Stillwaters for League 4 were Albert van Niekerk (40pts); Anil Boodhoo (37 pts); Fanie Els (34 pts); Mark Ince (26 pts) and Sipho Manyoni (23 pts).
The title contenders for Breakwaters/Stillwaters are: Vernon Naidoo (heaviest scaled fish – carp of 3,3,75kg); Sikander Amod (heaviest non scaled fish – Barbel of 6,9kg); Thasheel Rooplal (heaviest scaly of 1,210kg); Suvyn Budhoo (rare specie – a bass of 1,090kg); Fanie Els (Most Fish Caught and Angler of Year); Albert van Niekerk (highest point scorer); Veruschka Boodhoo (Lady Angler of the Year – 20 points); Mohamed Sheik (Junior Angler of the Year – 7 pts); Kidd Rampersadh (Senior Angler of the Year – 8pts). Most of other categories are closely contested as anglers stake their name for glory.
Anglers will take a break from competitive angling during the festive season. The next APL fixture is the VME League 5 at Sandford on February 19 2017. Wishing our members a joyous festive season and tight lines.
