How to Christmas shop on a budget

Make a list of all the people you would like to buy gifts for and prioritise who you really need to buy for

Christmas shopping can be extremely difficult and no fun if you have to work on a tight budget. As many of us parents still have to save money for the start of school, here are 5 tips that can make your Christmas shopping a fun and inexpensive experience.

  1. Make a list of everything you need and want to buy, and be certain to stick to that list. Do not buy unnecessary items.
  2. Make a list of all the people you would like to buy gifts for and prioritise who you really need to buy for. Send a card to those you feel you don’t have to buy a gift for. Not only will it be cheaper, but at the end of the day, it is the thought that counts.
  3. Instead of buying individual gifts for family members, buy them one gift the whole family can make use of.
  4. Avoid impulse buys: It’s easy to get swept up in the holiday spirit when everything in the mall screams Christmas cheer and so many items are discounted. Don’t be fooled into buying stuff you don’t need.
  5. Make your own Christmas gifts. Going homemade can be a great way to add a personal touch to your holiday shopping list. Put those years in art school to good use.
