Sarel Cilliers matrics notch up 78 A symbols

There was a more sombre mood this year at Sarel Cilliers where the pass rate for the class of 2016 was 75%.
There were 38 failures. Despite this, there were some outstanding achievements with the Sarel matrics of 2016 obtaining a total of 78 symbols.

These include: 53 A symbols recorded in IsiZulu first language, nine As in Tourism, two A symbols in Engineering and Graphic Studies, English First Language, Afrikaans First Language, Accounting, Life Science, Computer Application Technology and one A symbol in Maths Literacy, Business Studies, History, Tourism and Consumer Studies.

Principal, Kevin van Staden, said it was back to the drawing board, adding that he and his staff will be re-strategising for 2017 to ensure that there is a marked improvement this time next year. In 2015, Sarel Cilliers’ matrics achieved an 85% pass rate.

Top Sarel matriculant was Tanya Loubser who achieved A symbols in Afrikaans (85%), Maths Literacy (87%), Computer Application Technology (80%) and Tourism (88%). Tanya will this year study a B Comm Law.
Jonbonet Lambinon was close on Tanya’s heels also with four As in English, Accounting (89%) , Business Studies (90%) and Computer Application Technology. She also racked up two Bs, Afrikaans and Life Orientation and one C, Maths.
Franci Mari Gregory took home two As, English and Computer Application Technology and scored Bs for Afrikaans, Maths, Life Orientation, Life Science and a C for physics.
