Jaya Sookraj has added another accolade to his long list of educational and career achievements when he was admitted as an Advocate at the Pietermaritzburg High Court.

He holds a H.D.E (equivalent to a B.Ed Degree), a BBA, a B.Com Law, Honours in Labour Law and a Bachelor of Laws Degree.
Through his Advocate Mergan Chetty, he had to convince the full bench of the high court that there is no law in South Africa that prohibits a person from practising more than one profession.

Mr Sookraj is currently a lecturer of criminal law, introduction to law, governance and law procedures and evidence at the Mnambithi TVET College and specialises in labour law when he is not lecturing. He is currently registered for pupillage though the National Bar Council of South Africa.

His family are all high achievers with his wife, Ashara, who is a Head of Department at Forderville Primary School, being placed first in KwaZulu-Natal and second in the country last year for excellence in mathematics teaching.

His two sons, Rivone and Derone, are currently final year B.Ed and LLB students respectively at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, after excelling with A aggregates in their matric examinations.

Mr Sookraj gives full credit for his success to the Lord Jesus and to his wife and sons who have always supported him.

His advice to everybody is to never let your detractor’s negative words and thoughts get you down. Believe in yourself and always prove people wrong when faced with adversity.

He is a faithful member of Place of Grace Ministries and also plays the guitar and keyboard.

He lives by the Bible verse Jeremiah 29:11, which states that the Lord knows the plans that He has for us, which is never to harm us but to give us hope for the future, therefore the Lord’s plans for us will always be fulfilled.
