Muddy trails no match for Vryheid’s mountainbikers

Vryheid's mountainbikers took part in the Mtunzini Big 5 Buffalo race held over the weekend.

QUITE a few of Vryheid’s mountainbikers took part in the Mtunzini Big 5 Buffalo race held over the weekend.

The event was supposed to take place last weekend but was postponed due to bad riding weather and rain (the area had more than 200mm last weekend). Sandra Haywood outdid herself once again and took 3rd place overall (unofficial time 2:24) in the 45km race in an exciting sprint finish with 2 other ladies, first lady being 22 years of age and riding for Bell. Riaan ‘Buffel’ Swanepoel came second in his age category in an excellent time of 2:17 (unofficial time). Other podium riders were Francis J van Rensburg who took first lady overall in the 25km event and Ernest Franzen 2nd overall in the men’s 25km event. Well done also to all the other Vryheid riders who did really well in a muddy first part of the route, but also enjoyed the trails so much! 45km: Everette Haywood, Pieter Muller, Paulo Marques, Lize Swanepoel, Marius van Eden, Elize van Eden and Coreen Scholtz. 25km JD and Izette Kruger.
