Motor heads, feast on this!
Certainly, a feast for the senses for any motor head, grease monkey, or even history buff, Vryheid’s Car Show reputedly boasts more ‘big-headlight’ classics than any show in South Africa.
MORE than 40 ‘big-headlight’ vintage cars will feature among the 300 classic cars, hotrods, roadsters, tractors, stationary engines, motorcycles, etc, on display at the 2017 Vryheid Vintage Car Club (VVCC) annual Car Show.
Certainly, a feast for the senses for any motor head, grease monkey, or even history buff, Vryheid’s Car Show reputedly boasts more ‘big-headlight’ classics than any show in South Africa.
The Car Show is set to take place on June 10 at Lucas Meyer rugby field and marks the club’s 20th anniversary.
The highlight of this year’s show is the collection of no less than 13 Ford Model T’s, said to be the most influential car of the 20th century. The Ford Model T features among the top 10 most produced cars in the world and is generally regarded as the first affordable automobile.
This powerful symbol of America entering the age of modernisation, provided inexpensive transport on a massive scale, with 15 million cars rolling off the assembly line between 1908 and 1927.
In the words of Henry Ford, “I will build a car for the great multitude. It will be large enough for the family, but small enough for the individual to run and care for. It will be constructed of the best materials, by the best men to be hired, after the simplest designs that modern engineering can devise. But it will be so low in price that no man making a good salary will be unable to own one, and enjoy with his family the blessing of hours of pleasure in God’s great open spaces.”

Founding member of the VVCC, Harry Heyns, is well versed in the history of the Ford Model T and will share his knowledge of what makes this car special with anyone who cares to know.
Mr Heyns will be displaying his own 1923 Ford Model T (red) four door touring at the Car Show next Saturday. He will also be displaying his 1932 Dodge, which took 3 500 hours to restore to its original glory, and a 1930 Ford Model A roadster.
The Volvo Club will be travelling from Johannesburg to display 40 cars. This is the 10th consecutive time that the Volvo club will be participating in the VVCC’s Car Show.
Also, be sure to look out for the 1909 Renault, a 1904 Cadillac and a Morris Minor.
With a number of stalls, jumping castles and live entertainment, this event promises to be fun for the whole family.
A Country and Western show will be presented by Billy Forrest, Clive Bruce, Dalene and Jody Wayne. The entrance fee is R25 for adults and R15 for children under the age of 18.
