Northern Natal Christian Schools Athletics
On Friday, August 11, Ichthus athletes, staff and parents travelled to KwaSizabantu Mission near Kranskop for the Northern Natal Christian Schools Athletics meeting, which was hosted by Domino Servite School. On Friday everyone enjoyed a tour of the mission station, which included the Aquelle bottling factory and the hot houses where avocados and peppers are grown and the warehouse where they are packed and stored to be shipped to Woolworths, Spar and exported to Holland.
On Saturday, Domino Servite School, Estcourt Christian Academy, and Ichthus marched around the athletics track to Chariots of Fire to start the meeting. Well done to all our learners who performed beautifully on the track and field during the meeting.
The following records were improved by Ichthus athletes: Boys u/7 60m – Sinakho Maphumulo. Girls u/10 Turbo Javelin – Faith Mazibuko.
Aquelle KZNCSSA Championships
Since 2003 Ichthus joined the South African Christian School Sports Association, thanks to the initiative of Erika Collett. On Friday, September 1, saw the start of the two-day KZNCSSA Athletics Championships at Kings Park Athletics Stadium in Durban. Well done to all the athletes who participated so enthusiastically.

u/7: Hannah Mazibuko: Silver – 600m; Khwezi Kheswa: Gold – 60m; Silver – Cricket Ball; Silver – 80m; Sinakho Maphumulo: Gold – 80m; Chris Mumpi: Gold – 600m.
u/8: Jobekazi Sithole: Bronze – Turbo Javelin and Seamus Stein: Bronze – 600m.
u/9: Entle Zondi: Gold – 60m; Bronze – 600m, Bronze – 80m; Malwande Mdiniso: Gold – Turbo Javelin; Gold – 80m; Samlungela Thwala: Silver – Turbo Javelin and Lethokuhle Kubheka: Bronze – Turbo Javelin.
u/10: Faith Mazibuko: Gold – Shotput, Gold – Turbo Javelin.
u/11: Sandisiwe Ncube: Gold – Shotput and Khwezi Molefe: Gold – Long jump.
u/12: Owethu Mbatha: Bronze – Long Jump, Bronze – 150m. Roseline Mumpi: Bronze – Discus, Silver – Shotput. Siphume Ntombela: Silver – Javelin, Bronze – High Jump.
u/13: Amy-Faith Stein: Gold – Discus, Bronze – 100m, Silver – 200m.
Congratulations to Khwezi Kheswa who was awarded a trophy for the u/7 Victor Ludorum and Amy-Faith Stein who was runner up for the Junior Victrix Ludorum.
Ichthus learners have left a trail of records at the KZN Christian Schools Provincial Athletics, where several learners set various records. Congratulations to Jan-Frederik van Zyl who set 7 records since 2009 in Turbo Javelin, Javelin and 400m, with the record of 63,27m as a highlight for Boys u/15 Javelin which was set last year.
