Ladysmith Secondary School (Lasec) held a special assembly recently.
The assembly was held to honour the YCAP team for bringing home the national title, the outstanding team performance at the District Language Festival and most important, the 169 matriculants for their participation in the Sunlit Path Study Programme and the 65 learners who represented the school at the Sunlit Path Social Ills Conference.
The assembly was filled with pomp and ceremony, and the recipients felt recognised and honoured for their achievements.
The school hosted members of the Divine Life Society, who travelled from Durban and Estcourt to make presentations.
The guest speaker was renowned Professor K Bhowan of UKZN, who visited the school earlier and presented an inspiring lecture to the matriculants on how to study.
His presentation was “different”, and the learners felt his ideas were innovative and refreshing. In his address, he congratulated all those learners who signed the pledges and called on the learners to lead a full, fruitful and creative life by being good and doing good.
According to school principal AN Govender, the Sunlit Path Programme is designed for children. Held under the auspices of the Divine Life Society of South Africa, it aims to assist learners in overcoming drug addiction, alcoholism, depression and other social ills that are plaguing our community.
It is not a religious programme, but has a broad universal spiritual message and is highly value-laden.
All in all, it was a highly successful assembly and each learner received a certificate in recognition of their achievement.
