SPORTS: Churches take to the greens in interchurch tournament

The winning team will receive half of the proceeds from the entry fees.

The Ncandu Bowls Club started its interchurch bowls tournament on Tuesday, September 5.

A total of 10 churches entered the tournament, and from these, 10 bowling teams were formed.

The tournament format saw each team playing nine matches, with the final games set to take place at the end of October.

Schoeman Botha from Ncandu Bowls Club, explained this was the second interchurch tournament the bowls club had hosted this year.

“We held our first one in March, where there were six participating teams.”

Pleased by the increase in the number of participants, Botha said the club would consider making the tournament an annual event.

The winning team will receive half of the proceeds from the entry fees.

The team will then have the opportunity to either donate the cash to a charity event, or give their share to their own individual church.

As the spring season has brought warmer evenings, bowls enthusiasts were enjoying the bowls tournament, with many games still to play.
